Side dishes to go along with an entree
Baked potato - wash a potato. stick a fork into it all around the potato so that gasses can escape and your potato won’t explode. Microwave for 5 minutes. It might cook faster if you cut it in half, too.
Boiled red potatoes - these little potatoes can be boiled or microwaved. Boiling takes a lot longer. Consider microwaving partway and then boiling for a few more minutes.
Asparagus - Steaming vegetables will keep more nutrients in the veggies than boiling, but boiling is faster and requires fewer utensils. With asparagus, hold the stalk at both ends and bend until it snaps. This is about where all the asparagus should be cut. Drop them into boiling water for a few minutes to taste. Some people prefer crunchy, others like soft.
Couscous - it’s a sexy name, but this rice like grain dish is dead simple to prepare. It comes in boxes at the store. Most of them are the ready in 5 minutes kind. So you just boil a little over a cup of water, pour the couscous in and take off the heat, and fluff it 5 minutes later and it’s done.
Tomatoes in vinegar - cut a tomato into small pieces and put in a bowl. pour red wine vinegar, salt, and pepper over them. Flavored vinegar is good, too. I have some spicy stuff that’s great. You can also add chopped onion (the onion flavor isn’t nearly as strong with the vinegar and pepper and salt there, too) or daikon (huge asian radish. easy to find).
Corn - open a can of corn. Pour into bowl. Microwave for 5 minutes. Could it get any easier?
Spaghetti - not just an entree, it can be a good side dish to a steak or a chicken breast. With steak I’d do a marinara sauce. With chicken breast either marinara or alfredo. With pork I’d do alfredo sauce. To make spaghetti boil some water. Put a dime’s worth for one serving (where the diameter of your bunch of spaghetti is about as thick as a dime). As it softens, stir so that all of the spaghetti ends up under the water. Boil for about 10 minutes until the spaghetti is soft. You should be able to throw a strand against a wall and it will stick to the wall.
